Here can be found an interactive exhibition telling the inspiring story of the Pilgrim Fathers and their epic voyage aboard the Mayflower. Learn of the creation of Sutton Harbour and of the emigration to the New World, the fishing industry and the Military Harbour. Experience the life of Plymouth’s bustling Barbican Maritime Village, both past and present. The tourist centre is also located here, as are numerous craft workshops and art galleries. Local artists enjoying an international reputation include Beryl Cook, Brian Pollard, Lee Woods and the late Robert Lenckiewiecz.

Smeaton’s Tower, The Hoe.
From 1759 to 1882, Smeaton’s Tower originally served as the fourth Eddystone lighthouse. Moved stone by stone from the dangerous rocks in the late 1880s, Smeaton’s Tower has been Plymouth's most famous landmark ever since. Climb the 93 steps at your leisure and enjoy the spectacular panoramic view over Plymouth and beyond.
Saltram House, Plympton. 01752 333500
An exquisite Georgian mansion in landscaped parkland and cared for by the National Trust, Saltram was the ideal film location for ‘Sense and Sensibility’. The House was originally built by the Parker family and has Adam rooms, magnificent plasterwork ceilings, Chinese wallpapers and paintings that include works by Reynolds and Angelica Kauffman. The garden contains an Orangery, as well as beautiful shrubberies and specimen trees and can be toured with the gardener himself. Saltram also offers guided tours within and parkland walks with the warden. The shop displays a wide range of gifts, whilst the Chapel Gallery has an excellent selection of quality arts and crafts. The annual calendar hosting many regular events plus the licensed Park Restaurant open for most of the year, Saltram comes highly recommended.
Plymouth Gin Distillery, Barbican. 01752 665292
The Plymouth Gin visitor centre offers guided tours around the fully working distillery, giving a fascinating insight into the history and creation of the internationally acclaimed and award-winning gin, together with a tasting of the range.
The building dates back to the 1431 and the architecturally stunning Refectory bar is reputed to be where the Pilgrim Fathers spent their final night in Plymouth before setting sail for the New World. The finest local food and drink can be enjoyed at the centre’s café and a well-stocked gift shop is available for you to purchase a bottle or two of Plymouth’s excellent gin, made to the same secret recipe since 1793.
Elizabethan House, Barbican. 01752 253871
A rare chance to explore a genuine Tudor sea captain's home. Return to a bygone age at 32 New Street, The Barbican. The house is a rare surviving example of its era, with period furniture and fabrics, sloping oak floors and beams and a winding staircase. The Elizabethan kitchen has recently been refurbished and contains specially recreated furniture and kitchen ware. Rescued from demolition in 1929 by the Old Plymouth Society, the Elizabethan House opened to the public as a museum in 1930 and has remained so to the present day.

The Mount Batten Centre specialises in watersports and adventurous activities.
Staffed by a highly qualified, experienced team, the venue is recognised as a RYA dinghy sailing, powerboating and windsurfing establishment. Situated on Mount Batten peninsula, overlooking Plymouth Sound, the Centre offers sheltered sailing waters as well as open sea. A range of various craft are available and can offer something for everyone, from racing to quiet paddling expeditions. Catering for groups or individuals, the Centre’s exciting residential or day courses ensure that there is much to be learned, experienced and enjoyed at the MBC.
