On Golden Pond 2012 16 - 21 April
By Ernest Thompson
Designed & directed by Michael Lunney

Starring STEFANIE POWERS, RICHARD JOHNSON and ELIZABETH CARLING, with Tom Roberts, Graeme Dalling, Kasper Michaels & Victoria May.

On Golden Pond, the classic Broadway comedy on which the Academy Award-winning film was based, is the funny, endearing and touching story of three generations of the Thayer family who come together for a summer holiday in a country house.

As the golden days of summer pass, the family explore their relationship with each other – with amusing and often moving results.

This lavish new production sees Hollywood film and television star Stefanie Powers joined by British film star and RSC/National Theatre leading man Richard Johnson, with Elizabeth Carling (best known from her regular roles in Boon, Goodnight Sweetheart and Casualty) playing their daughter Chelsea.

The New York Daily News described the play as “A work of rare simplicity and beauty”, and the Middle Ground production has been garnering high praise from press and audiences alike on its British tour.

Press acclaim:
“Outstanding… Richard Johnson is superb… Stefanie Powers gives a wonderfully understated performance with an exceptionally strong characterisation .. excellent direction by Michael Lunney”. Wolverhampton Express & Star

"A script that bubbles and sometimes crackles with good humour ... a complete delight" East Anglia Daily Times

"The house was packed with an audience that rang with laughter, sat silent with solemnity, and erupted into applause. All with good reason to; the seven-member cast worked beautifully together...the cast and crew should be congratulated for doing a marvellous job... world class". Colchester Circle

"Two huge names star in On Golden Pond. Richard Johnson & Stefanie Powers entranced the sold-out first night and it was impossible to believe that this was the very start of Middle Ground's extensive tour of this production. It was not only the two central performers who captured the essence of Thompson's wry, witty generation game, the whole cast gives strong support. Richard Johnson gives the performance of his illustrious, mature career" Halstead Gazette

PLYMOUTH PAVILIONS

The Dubliners Thu 8 March 2012, 7:30pm
2012 is a major landmark year for The Dubliners. It marks the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the band in O’Donoghues Pub on Merrion Row in Dublin’s fair city. The band have also just won a BBC Radio 2 Lifetime Achievement award!

That day in 1962 when Barney McKenna, Ronnie Drew, Luke Kelly & Ciaran Bourke finally decided to “give it a go” as a real band rather than just play in pubs for “porter and balls of malt” and invited young fiddle player John Sheahan and guitarist Bob Lynch to join their ranks has to be seen as one of the best accidents ever to happen in the world of music.

After spending their first few months as the Ronnie Drew Ballad Group, and even one show advertised as The Ronnie Drew Ballet Group, the lads decided to call themselves after the James Joyce book Luke was reading at the time...Dubliners. It was as simple as that. The Dubliners were born.

Since then the band have entertained, sang, thrilled, amazed, travelled, drank, slept, travelled some more, had another drink or three, recorded some great songs and amazing albums; Whiskey In The Jar, Dirty Old Town, The Irish Rover, and played with just about everyone; U2, Rory Gallagher, Christy Moore, Billy Connolly, Imelda May, Damien Dempsey, Glen Hansard, The Pogues. They have endured tragedies; first Bob Lynch, then Luke Kelly, Ciaran Bourke and Ronnie Drew all passed on. Jim McCann’s health problems meant he had to retire, but over the years Barney and John have played on. The Dubliners always go on, with Sean Cannon joining them over 30 years ago, Eamonn Campbell more than 25 years ago and now “new boy” Patsy Watchorn.

Ladies and Gentlemen Raise a Glass to...The Dubliners!

Rebecca Ferguson Thu 15 March 2012, 7:00pm
After reaching the final of The X Factor in 2010, Rebecca Ferguson's soulful voice marked her out as one of the biggest talents to emerge from the show in recent years. Since then she has wowed fans with her stunning voice and has been busy co-writing all the songs from her critically acclaimed debut album Heaven.

The last year has allowed this Liverpudlian world-class singer/songwriter to hone her writing skills and to channel that remarkable soul voice into a selection of songs that will establish this 25 year old as the voice of her generation, and a global superstar. Already her debut tour has been extended due to overwhelming demand, including a date at Plymouth Pavilions in March.

Joan Baez Fri 23 March 2012, 7:30pm
Since she began her legendary residency at Boston's famed Club 47 and her debut at the 1959 Newport Folk Festival, Joan Baez remains a musical force of nature whose influence is incalculable - marching on the front line of the civil rights movement with Martin Luther King, singing on the first Amnesty International tour, standing alongside Nelson Mandela when the world celebrated his 90th birthday in London's Hyde Park.

Her earliest recordings fed a host of traditional ballads into the rock vernacular, before she unselfconsciously introduced Bob Dylan to the world in 1963 and focused awareness on songwriters ranging from Woody Guthrie, Dylan, Phil Ochs, Richard Farina and Tim Hardin, to Kris Kristofferson and Mickey Newbury, to Dar Williams, Richard Shindell, Steve Earle and may more.

MCFLY Keep Calm and Play Louder in association with Ice-Watch Sat 24 March 2012, 7:00pm McFly have announced that they will be hitting the road once more in March/April 2012 for an up close and personal 26 date tour that will see them stopping in all corners of the UK.

McFly’s fifth studio album ‘Above The Noise’ was released to huge acclaim in November last year and spawned the band’s biggest single to date ‘Shine A Light’ which sold over 300,000 in the UK. The guys are currently writing for their 6th Studio album. Don’t miss one of your chance to catch one the most successful young bands up close and personal when they head to Plymouth in March!

Matt Cardle Mon 26 March 2012, 7:00pm
When Matt Cardle turned up for his first audition on THAT show in 2010, little did he know that the shifts in plastic factories and gruelling labour on building sites would soon be a thing of the past. The hard graft hasn't stopped though!

After touring with the X Factor, Matt has been studiously writing and recording his debut album Letters. Hours tucked away in the studio, late nights and cases of beer... Not only has Matt created something special, he has come up with a combination of music and lyrics far beyond the expectations of any chart debutant. Don't miss your chance to see him performing his amazing new material live.

Tickets are limited to 8 per person.

Australian Pink Floyd Tue 27 March 2012, 7:30pm
Following the sold out dates earlier this year, and taking its title from the lyrics of the Floyd classic “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”, the 2012 “Exposed In The Light” tour will bring the ever popular Australian Pink Floyd back to Plymouth Pavilions! As News Of The World summarised; “The Australian Pink Floyd show is as good as it gets for fans of Syd Barrett and Messrs Waters, Gilmour, Wright and Mason”.

Emerging back in 1988, the original and credible Floyd act TAPFS has been getting bigger and better ever since. The band were described by Floyd drummer Nick Mason on BBC 5 Live as “Very good, probably better than we are,” and even engaged by David Gilmour to perform at his 50th birthday celebration! The Mirror hailed the act quite simply as, “The kings of the genre”.

With the exact details of the show still to be revealed there is plenty to anticipate but the finished package will be as the Birmingham Mail said in 2011, simply Pinkredible!

Just announced! Lorelei McBrrom, a backing vocalist who originally toured with Pink Floyd, will be joining the Australian Pink Floyd tour in 2012! Lorelei toured with Pink Floyd on their “Momentary Lapse of Reason” and “Delicate Sound of Thunder” tours, Lorelei also appeared in Pink Floyd’s original music videos for “The Dogs of War”, “On The Turning Away” and the “Pink Floyd Live In Venice” TV broadcast. She was also given the opportunity to perform “The Great Gig In The Sky” with Pink Floyd.
